The Wind Horses

Wind horses are those multicoloured prayer flags hung from a single line that sway in the breeze, crack in storms, fade in the sun and the monsoon, and tear with the passage of time, but which do not cease to illuminate the spirits. Are not the lives of human beings reflected in the image of these pieces of fabric? Lax and Fournier ask this question by inviting their readers to join the private life of a family of the high valley of the Ganges at the end of the 19th century. Two brothers in love with the same woman is all that is needed to shatter a family's stability, send its protagonists out on paths of adventure. In this way, in order to rebuild his family, the father begins to spy on behalf of the English. These are the motions of classic tragedy that play out on the back of colonisation and Victorian conquest, in the shadow of the snow-covered peaks of the Himalayas.
